Meet Dustin Key, Huntsville Divorce Lawyer Family Law Attorney
Attorney Dustin Key focuses on family law and civil litigation at Leigh Daniel Family Law.
Dustin joined Leigh Daniel Family Law after gaining legal experience working for Alabama law firms that are defense firms and an earlier career in law enforcement. He serves clients in family law matters involving separation, divorce, and child custody in Lauderdale, Limestone, Morgan, and Madison counties.
Helping You Get Through Your Divorce
When Dustin meets with clients who are considering ending a marriage, he tries to get a clear sense of their goals in seeking separation and divorce and as much information as possible about the circumstances leading to the decision to end the marriage.
Dustin understands that many family law clients are going through a stressful time and need a good listener and a strong advocate. He works to establish clear communication with each client, provide guidance based on the specific circumstances and show the client that he is on their side.
“They really want to see that you are fighting for them,” he says.
He takes time to help clients understand their options and provides trusted guidance to help them make forward-looking decisions. He believes it is essential to be honest with clients about what they are seeking to achieve and not build false expectations.
“I’m trying to prepare them for every possibility,” he says. “I really try to give them a real sense of what could or could not happen in a case.”
Dustin’s Background and Education
Dustin graduated magna cum laude from Freed-Hardeman University with a bachelor’s degree in Biblical Studies and a master’s degree in New Testament Studies.
Before becoming an attorney, he served as a police officer in Florence, Alabama.
“I was around lawyers a lot and got to know them through my police work,” Dustin says.
His frequent interactions with legal professionals and interest in the law inspired him to attend law school.
He enrolled at Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in Birmingham and graduated cum laude in the top 10 percent of his class. While in law school, he served as a Junior and Associate Editor of the Cumberland Law Review and as a teaching assistant for a semester.
Dustin says there are similarities between being a family law attorney and being a police officer.
“A lot of times, especially with police work, you see people when they are at their worst,” he says. “You have to understand how to communicate with people when they are at that stage. There are definitely some similarities. At the end of the day, ultimately you are trying to help people.”
As an attorney at Leigh Daniel Family Law, Dustin focuses on fighting to help clients achieve their goals and helping people move forward with their lives.
When not practicing law, Dustin enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter, playing golf and camping.
